Sneaky Sundays Turns 10

Click here for more photos of the night

These boys are looking rather good for 10. In fact, they don't look a day over nine. But yup, last weekend marked the 520th of everybody's favourite Sunday night... and this one was certainly the best of all them.

Sneaky Sundays has entered it's second decade with a brand new layout: the Discoteque AND the Terrace, the latter being the new space that has gotten all the DJ's as excited as... well, ten year olds. So it seemed fitting to start the celebrations outside, where U-GO-B, Dolso, and Miss Annie warmed things up while pizzas and waters were thrown down by the good little soldiers who were preparing to fight hard in the ten hour battle ahead.

And fight those little soldiers did. Except swap the violence for dancing, tears for laughter, and guns for glow sticks and party poppers. At 9pm, everyone thought it time to run from space number 1 to space number 2, where Black Angus spent two hours dropping classic after classic from the past ten years to an especially enthusiastic audience. This was mixed with a bit of old school Sneaky Sound System too, accompanied by Tricky Nick on the saxophone and MC Double D on the mic. Meanwhile, Doom kept the cigarette suckers on the Terrace alive.

Darshan, wonder boy, from Metro Area was the next one to step up. We loved him, and he loved us back. There was a lot of love in the room that night.

Then came some banging techno (and a lot of smoke, from our smoke machine who isn't ten years old, but whom we love anyway) from Black, Dangerous, Jonny Pow, Jimmy 2 Sox, Ajax, and Hoodrat, whilst the troops marched on and on.

And then it was the end of the night, and everyone thought, "Wow, ten years... (reflective moment)... this night is still fucking awesome."

Smokey Robinson once said, "Time flies when you're having fun", and boy did that soul dude know what he was on about. That was the quickest ten hours... I mean ten years, of our lives.

It's beginning to look a lot like summer

So summer really kicked off last weekend with the Fleetwood Mac concert in the Hunter Valley, where everyone and anyone gathered together on a patch of nice green grass on the Hope Estate to listen to a whole load of hits (which spurred a lot of drinking) plus a whole load more non-hits a.k.a. boring country songs (which spurred even heavier drinking). This made for 19,000 rather messed up people, around 200,000 wine spills, hundreds of lost items, dozens of broken cameras, and one amazing video.

Check it out. Our front row video of 'Go Your Own Way'. Featuring a pretty cool guitar solo by Lindsay Buckingham and general confirmation for the above. If you like pink sunsets and drunk girls, then there are photos for you too.

Stay tuned for our summer, happening YOLO style!

Road Trippin' from Brisbane to beyond

Follow the yellow brick road...

After last week's gigs in Adelaide and Perth in which Angus and Dan reached such a state of excitement that Dan punched himself in the mouth and woke up with a split lip and bloody teeth (a closer recount to follow)....we thought this weekend it was time to chill out a little.
Except, on the YOLO road trip, it didn't really work out that way.

It all started in Brisbane on Friday night at The Met, where cage dancers, stage dancers, a camel toe, and a big dragon got our minds thinking outside the 'chilled out and relaxed' box. And by dragon, we mean a really fucking big dragon that swooped down from the ceiling infrequently and totally unexpectedly throughout the night, red laser eyes scanning the freaked-out crowd as it flapped its wings, firing from its open mouth massive jets of cold smoke (Ibefa style) while techno music thumped around it. And someone else with laser eyes spotted Dan's t-shirt from inside her gilded cage all the way across the room, assuming the slogan was her ticket to pounce on an unsuspecting Dan in a dark alleyway. But she'd missed a key word on the t-shirt, that dancer girl. OFF.

Day 2 was the day of really good ideas and feeling happy as a result of those ideas. After patting each other on the back for not staying out too late the night before we piled into the car and started driving to the Gold Coast. On the way Dan had the first good idea, which was to stop in at Wet n' Wild. "Yay!!!!" all the YOLO passengers cried.
A few ten-second thrills and hours of standing in lines later, we got back into the car and soon developed the second good idea of the day, 'ditch the Gold Coast and go to Byron', the best and greatest idea ever. Dan said happily, sucking down a coca-cola slurpie, "today is a good day".

We arrived in Byron, haven of all havens, and were pretty pleased with ourselves for thinking to go there. In true YOLO style, we spent the afternoon and evening eating and drinking. Dinner at the Pacific Dining room, our favourite restaurant, was the third winning idea. It meant we were able to gorge ourselves with manuka coladas, coconut and chili martinis, grilled peppers, kingfish sashimi, roast lamb, and loads of other delicacies before driving up to Coolangatta for the gig at Neverland.

Saturday night at Neverland was, quite surprisingly, the favourite show of the tour. No camel toes or dragons this time, but loads of cool kids dancing in front of messy wall scrawl getting flicked in the head with a rad green laser and enough general vibe for Dan and Angus to deem it suitable to pull out all of their best tunes in a set that saw them having maybe even more fun than the laser-zapped kiddies down in front. Plenty more 'duck sauce' here, as always, and even some duck shaped mouths. Plus some babuhska dolls, curly haired kings, and an evil chick with bleeding eyes. Only at Neverland.

Day 3 was Geelong, but who the hell wants to hear about that. Not us. But they do have an awesome chinese restaurant in that little town. Its called Man Bo. Go there. And Top of the Hill Pizza, where the ham comes a plenty and old tunes flow at the mere cost of a two dollar coin to liven your sunken spirits. We are the champions.

No, we really are.

YOLO!

Click here for more YOLO tour shots

Check out our latest photographs for ideas of all kinds of fun things to do, if (like us) you have gracefully accepted that you only live once and have many more things to cross off your list. These things should most definitely include taking a trip on a seaplane, watching Black Angus and Dangerous Dan dj, visiting Sorry Grandma in Melbourne, having a vodka shot containing gold, caviar and a live fish, dancing with your eyes closed to one of Black Angus' after hours set and pretending you're in Ibiza, drinking a whole bottle of Don Julio 1942......

You Only Live Once in Canberra

More photos of YOLO Canberra this way...

First date of the YOLO tour was Canberra, or 'meeting place' in aboriginal, our nation's capital. A place where square buildings with square gardens, clubs that don't get busy until 4am, and Australia's largest (literally- 6ft'7) DJ/Promoter Huw all 'meet' together. We met a few things down there too- like a few too many bad cocktails. By the time it was ready to go to the club it was 2am. By the time people decided it was time for their feet to 'meet' the dancefloor it was 4am- and by the time a few girls decided it was time for their fists to meet each other's heads it was 5.30 and then it was time to drop 'Duck Sauce' and soon after be greeted by a beautiful hinterland sunrise.
Oh... and a local screaming to another local, "I'm gunna kill you, you skinny bitch!!!"
En route to Newcastle, where hopefully there will be less punch ups but certainly plenty more 'Duck Sauce'.

BENI

Who is Beni? One-man-party? Antipodean dance-meister extraordinaire? Kitsune's hottest touring DJ du jour?
All of the above PLUS PLUS PLUS!

In three short years Beni has worn many musical
guises:
- Erstwhile global follies with vagabond disco pirates
the Bang Gang Deejays
- Creator of two worldwide stonking singles with (now
defunct) Riot In Belgium
- A stellar array of remixes for Tiga, Digitalism, Fischerspooner, La Roux and Alex Gopher
- And finally his first solo offering earlier this year, the storming acid-drenched disco-funk of 'My Love Sees You'.

This year has been a colossal one for young Beni. It has seen him headline the worldwide famous Kitsune Maison tours throughout Japan, America, Canada and Europe, as well as the release of ‘Maximus’, his new monster slab of black plastic featuring vocals from the mighty Sam Sparro.

'Maximus' reached great heights soon after its birth, being crowned as the tune of the month in both mixmag and DJ magazine. The music video had equal success, reaching over 100,000 views in a matter of days.

Over the past few months Beni has been locked up in the studio completing his first solo album, to be released next year. And if this last year is anything to go by- 2010 will surely be the grand slam in acid-funk madness, the spanking new beats from his album taking us to new heights in Beni-intoxication.

James Murphy Interview

What are you working on right now?
i'm working on a few things. there's the new lcd record, which i'm currently procrastinating on. i'm doing a soundtrack for a film by noah baumbach, which is really fun, and essentially like making a totally other record. i'm mixing and finishing the shit robot LP with him. there's some other businessy stuff that's going on, but not very exciting to describe. oh, and we're shooting a video this week for the lcd cover of "bye bye bayou", an alan vega song. ahhh... and it's the CMJ festival, so we're having a dfa party and dj'ing thursday. it's a busy time.

Please drop some helpful hints about the next LCD Soundsystem record.
no. i mean, it'll be an lcd record, on a trajectory line of the last 2 records... it'll have songs on it and all that... i hope it's really good. i'm pretty excited about it.

Seinfeld- whoa, is this true? Describe what your life as a writer might have been like.
well, there was a window of opportunity to TRY to write for the show, just after the first season--certainly not a job offer or anything, just a lot of interest. i have no idea what my life would have been like. maybe i would have been insufferable. i think i would have self-destructed in one way or another, and built up some pretty intense spending habits.

Mr English major, tell us about the next full band LCD Soundsystem tour we can expect, using at least ONE conjunctive adverb and ONE proper noun.
je refuse.

Who are the hot new DFA acts we should be listening out for?
all of them? holy ghost, free energy, black meteoric star, planningtorock, canyons (of your own land), still going, etc. etc. etc...

What are the sentiments like between you and Jesse Keeler post - DFA dispute?
ha ha ha! jesse is actually a friend, totally. we get along great. i haven't seen him in a while, though. maybe even a year? is that true? yeah... maybe a year. that entire thing is pretty laughable, frankly.

Lastly, what do you remember about your evening at Sneaky Sundays?
i proudly remember very little, which is always a good sign. i DO remember playing records, and dan sort of dumping a drink on me by accident, and me dumping one on him in retribution on purpose. again: a good sign.

The You Only Live Once perfect 11

1. What's your current state of mind?
happy-morning-baby. it's my favorite state of mind.

2. Who is your perfect woman (or man)?
yikes! i really have no idea! the person you want to sleep with AND wake up to? i think that's a good measure.

3. How would someone else describe your look?
"that dude over there... with the big head... dressed like something between a 10-year-old and a grandfather."

4. Ultimate party moment to date?
first E, 1999, with the original dfa crew, peaking to "tomorrow never knows" by the beatles, while all my friends cheered my name and a totally adorable girl kissed me on the dancefloor. i think that's a winner.

5. The most amazing place you have been?
corsica.

6. Favourite new song of the moment?
the new planningtorock song janine sent me yesterday. not out. totally amazing. with al and felix of hot chip. yikes.

ramen

9. Best ever high?
see number 4.

10. What is your motto?

"too old to be new. too new to be classic."

11. Finish this sentence: Because I only live once I¹m planning on...
wasting as little time as possible.

Riton Interview

What’s happening in Riton world- can we expect a new album anytime soon?
Yes I've got a few collaborations on the go right now, I've got a good few tracks done with primary , and I think our next single is called 'radiates'. Then I've got an EP coming out on turbo which I made with another producer called Seiji. It sounds a bit like early chemical brothers or something. Along side this myself and dj Mehdi are working on an lp too.

Are you currently working on anything else for Die Verbotin with Soulwax? How far are you guys expecting this project will go?
Well we've finished off nearly six tracks now. So we're making a film to accompany some of the music and making it a DVD release. Cos up til now it's only been available on 12"

What has the response to Live in Eivissa been like?
It's been quite a low key release, partly cos were doing all of this as a break from our normal work and the vinyl only thing. But everyone who I’ve met who's heard it has said nice things
.

I’ve heard that in a past life you spent your time in front of a camera instead of behind the decks. Do you miss your days on the catwalk?
It really wasn't that big of a deal, but I much prefer it behind the decks.

Describe your evening at Sneaky Sundays.
Massive amount of pashing to use an Australian term

Lastly, explain how ‘You Only Live Once’ is going to change your life...
Hopefully Dan and Angus will get residencies in London and then we can hang out more.

JIMMY 2 SOX

My man JIMMY 2 SOX
By DANGEROUS DAN

I first met jimmy about 4 years ago, somewhere in Sydney. I think he was working in the warehouse at Ksubi. He had just started Djing and was super into music and nightclubs Jimmy was always hanging with the cool kids but there was one thing just a little odd about him. He was really really nice, a little too nice. I think it was rumored that he was maybe a shhhhh christian....? Dunno. Whatever it was, the last few years have just been jading enough to give this kid the grit he needed. Still super nice and great to be around but doesn’t think twice about staying up for the day and making out with as many chico’s as possible.

He’s my kind of dude, a dude’s dude. No pansy shit here. He likes to party. It shows in his DJjng now too, straight up party house n techno. Enough words for the ladies, enough noises for the boys. Jimmy is always fun to DJ with and the bomb to have around. Just ask James Murphy, Boys Noise, Surkin, Rub n Tug, Aeroplane, Cut Copy, Presets, Tim Sweeny, Lifelike and Mr. Oizo. They all have shared time behind the decks with 2 SOX, half of them trying to steal him from his Sunday home at Hugo’s lounge. That is not happening. “but Dangerous, Aeroplane want me to go be support on their 26 date American tour?!” no chance. I aint lettin this kid go. He’s too good with us.

Ask him what he’s doing in the studio and he says... "Ive Remixed Empire of the sun, Pnau, Jackson Jackson, Mickey Green, Toecutter and more on the way." Stuff that comes out of his computer is good, real good. Well good enough for me to play anyway. A solid dude, a solid DJ, I would recommend JIMMY to anyone, just make sure you keep an eye on your girlfriend.

JAIME DOOM AND GUS DA HOODRAT

Cavaliers of club, barons of Baltimore, tramps of techno and hobos of house, Jaime Doom and Gus Da Hoodrat are two parts of Sydney party troupe The Bang Gang Deejays, and two of the finest party rocking DJ's this or any other dimension has ever seen. Pioneers of the sound that's come to be known as "dimensioneer dance", Hoodrat and Doom are trailblazing DJ's completely unafraid of taking a trip into the murky waters of the sonic exploration, with complete disregard for acceptable club convention and what is commonly recognised as "good cricket".

Taking influence from current erectro-house, baile punk, minimal hechno, 90's French horse, 80's new wave and 70's disco, these disc jockeys (without horses) not only pioneer new dimensions (with, or without horses), they also help the deaf 'n' disabled, the young 'n' restless, the mellow 'n' yellow and the aged 'n' agitated to discombobulate into parallel universes. They've made thousands of mixes, released on their current spiritual and contractual home Modular Recordings, through Ministry Of Sound, on their own self-produced CD-R's and set into the wild via the interweb.
Doom and Hoodrat are also the engine room behind the notoriously bitchin Banggang 12inches record label, releasing vinyl by like-minded turkeys like Bag Raiders, Like Woah!, Soft Tigers, Muscles and KIM. They've toured the world, playing raves in Tokyo, smelly clubs in London, Parisian cheese factories, German leather dens, New York discos and Melbourne toilets. If there's a knees up where they can throw down, they've already done it, thrice over. All of this without ever producing a single jingle.

Coming to a DJ booth/house key near you.

AJAX

His nickname used to be Thommo, but during the the early nineties it didn't sound very acid house. He didn't like it, he never liked it this boy from OZ. The name tormented him, it undermined his dance party status and his emerging sexuality he thought. At art school the media students teased him and the sculpture students used to steal his mo wax lunchbox and mix clay into his peanut butter sandwiches. He ate them anyway. Art was going to kill him... he needed to fight back... he needed to become an art killer. After burning his whiteboard markers, his teaching jacket and other assorted art college paraphanalia, his soul surrended. Giggling, the now defunct COFA Lecturer flipped some switches, twiddled knobs and took any excess clay he found to his new spinning wheels. The abject lump of clay soon became a fragmented mess of dried up mud, dust and spilt candy glazes. It wasn't an idealized form, there was shit everywhere but he loved it. Thommo had become a disco Jockey...Thommo had become Ajax.

Ajax made friends fast, although the dancefloor still wasn't sure of his technique. So he and his few new friends created their own studio...The BANG GANG (Modular). Soon the shit noise that they had created spawned a new poetry and it was recorded (Ministry of Sound Mashed 1 2002, Ministry of Sound Mashed 2 Bang Gang Djs 2005, Tiga/Ajax In the Mix 2005 (both cds nominated for DMA Best mixed cd 2006), Ajax Presents Spin City 2006, Light Sound Dance Bang Gang Djs 2007 (Modular), Sweat It Out 2008 (Sweat It Out), Dance Till Dawn, Damnation, I'm With Bang Gang, Bang Gang K-Lassics and Bang Gang Art Killers 1).

Technics In The Mix No.1 NSW DJ 2008, Australian Dj 2007 and 2006, Allen & Heath DMA Best Australian DJ and Best Mixed CD 2006, 3d World Dj of the Year 2002, 2004, 2005, his Art Killing had hit new heights. Busy Ps Best Dj of 2007 (XLR8R), Digitalism's best dj of 2007 (BIGSHOT) and Justice's One to Watch in 2008 (DJ MAGAZINE). Fabric (London) pay him occasionally as do Showcase (Paris) for some spot cleaning, he no longer borrows money from his mum. His ego is spiralled out of control and bent his pop making; remixing Princess Superstar, Midnight Juggernauts, The Emergency, Naive New Beaters, and the Valentinos.

People laughed, some cried... His naked ambition had made him a peep show. Soon the dollar coins started to pile, he climbed them and to his surprise all he could see was clay and dust and glazes in every direction. He was speaking in tongues, a green foam frothed soon from his nostrils and he perspired..... what better he thought than to manipulate his ooze and bring forth establish his own record label, Sweat It Out which launched officially in Feburary 2008 with the signings of Gameboy Gamegirl, Edu K, Act Yo Age, Oh Snap and Redial.

With subscriptions to Modern Painters and Frieze now long expired, the battle for dominance between Ajax and Art continues. With the field wider and the arsenal larger, we expect an explosive and intriguing era ahead.

DJ Kaos Interview

What are you currently working on?
Myself

I hear you’re quite a multi-talented man- both on a skateboard and with a spray-can. Are you doing much of either these days?
I was the first graffiti painter in berlin, thats like 84, 85 when hip hop came around. a long time ago ! skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing is still my goal to clean my head, from all this clubbing, djing i am doing right now.

Are there any new side projects we should know about? Is Turntable Terranova well and truly dead?
TT is totally dead shit !!!! I am releasing records on Rong, DFA, Clone, Kitsune, Kompakt ect ect thats whats happening right now ....... i have a whole lp finished, out in 2010 (hopefully) !!!!

How would you currently describe the music scene in Berlin, and what is your place within it?
well, there is still a big techno scene out here, which is far away from all the 90's crap .. rave parade ect. the clubs are sick, the partys go on forever like 3 days or something.
the nights i am djing are more disco, house orientated. more classic, music for adults. BUT you see alot of younger kids too, they're hungry for this kinda vibes ... soul music!

How has the music in Berlin changed in the decade that you have been DJing? Have you seen a greater lean towards 'minimal' in recent years?
i've been there all my life. i dont try to follow the trends. keep it true to what i love ! that's what counts. the music industrie is fast. i hate all that shit from the UK! "EVERY MONTH A NEW STAR".
Minimal sucks, that’s for people who take cheap drugs and dance in one spot for 10 hours, that’s sick.

Describe your 'sound'.
Timeless and Fun

What can you tell us about the new album coming out next year?
Timeless and Fun

Lastly, what do you remember about your evening at Sneaky Sundays?
Wicked Wicked Wicked , i love these guys , they're sick and play great music ......... they party good and strong !!!!!

The You Only Live Once Perfect 11

1. What’s your current state of mind?
FREEDOM

2. Who is your perfect woman (or man)?
HMM, ITS TOUGH, THERE IS A BUNCH ..... HARD TO LIMIT IT DOWN !!!!

3. How would someone else describe your ‘look’?

DANGEROUS DAN

By Tiga.

Yo, so I’m in Australia right now and I thought there’s no better time to update his bio. My man has achieved a little bit more achievements and a whole lot more un-achievements in the last year. Here we go.

I would call my man Dan an all-round rad guy.
He is - Beni’s brother, 1/2 of Ksubi, 1/4 of Bang Gang a full time ladies man and non-stop party guy. He’s also now working on a series of parties and mix CDs with his other DJ partner Black Angus (of Sneaky Sound System fame) called “You Only Live Once”.. He is one busy mofo. As a DJ nothing much has changed since I took him under my wing and invited him to tour with me for the release of my album 'Sexor'.

Whether playing late night club sets of underground house and jacking disco to 300 people, or banging techno/mainroom/dance whatever you call that stuff to 8000 people at festivals, whatever the time, whatever the occasion, Dangerous Dan is the all time party rocker... full stop. He makes people dance (and he can dance quite well himself). He is also a great dude to have around. If I had the choice I would change his name to #1 Dangerous Dan. He laughs at this but I’m for real.

Dan take it away with the details.

Love always, T

BLACK ANGUS

Black Angus is a man with many hats. The co-founder and chief DJ at Sneaky Sundays; co-founder, producer, songwriter, guitarist and DJ for ARIA Award-winning super group Sneaky Sound System; owner of independent record label Whack Recordings; and of course, genre defying party DJ extraordinaire.

Like many children, his parents turned him on to music, but not in the way one would expect. At the tender age of eight he had a sneaking suspicion his mother’s playlist of Demis Roussos, Charlie Pride & Neil Diamond was not quite right, while his father’s blind obsession with Slim Dusty and American country music wasn’t pressing any buttons either, although there was ‘something’ about Jonny Cash that young Angus couldn’t quite put his finger on.

So began a lifelong search for music that did press the right buttons – 80s electro pop, Italo disco, American soul, Detroit Techno, German electronica, French house, acid house, deep house, minimal house and electro. Black Angus turned his hand to writing and producing in 2004, and a string of club and radio anthems followed that would change the face of Australian dance music forever. With a DJ CV that spans the globe and includes festivals like Glastonbury, V UK, Wireless UK, Rockness, Isle of Wight, Global Gathering, Mysteryland, Big Day Out, Splendour In The Grass, Good Vibrations, and clubs like Space Ibiza, Pacha Ibiza, Pacha NYC, Matter UK and just about every other club worth playing in the world, it would be fair to say that Black Angus, the man with many hats, really does know what he is doing.

Pilooski interview

What have you been up to since you were in Australia last year?
A lot of food editing, time travelling, analog dreaming.

What has changed for you since the release of Beggin'?
I don't have to queue at the local post office anymore. Old people now help me cross the street....

Do you prefer the editing process to remixing?
It's like choosing between cheese or desert, it depends on the wine really...

What made you start editing in the first place?
an early taste for Legos & Playmobils in general.

Which songs are next in the firing line to be edited?
just did one for a cool NY label RVGE of the Nerds, some new Moxie stuff, but have been focusing on the Discodeine lp & doing production for other bands lately...

What is your process of selection for the old tracks that you edit? Are these the songs that bear some kind of childhood relevance?
yes definitely, although i'm not that old :)

Summarize your next six months.
finish the Discodeine lp, produce a new cool French singer, remixes, going to the swimming pool, late night parties at the Ice-skate rings in Paris, cheese steak eating in Philly.

Lastly, what do you remember about the night you played at Sneaky Sundays…?
Cool people with a music knowledge, which is not always the case.

The You Only Live Once Perfect 11

1. What’s your current state of mind?
messy, i just woke up.

2. Who is your perfect woman (or man)?
Stéphane Audran, a French actress from the 60's, Françoise Hardy in the 60's, girls with X-ray powers in general. I guess i have the same taste for women my lesbian friends have (with less tattoes, maybe) :)

3. How would someone else describe your ‘look’?
i'd love to say "classy", but then again, it would sound pretentious...

4. Ultimate party moment to date?
definitely Brazil & the Robert Johnson club in Frankfurt.

5. The most amazing place you have been?
Brazil, Australia.

6. Favourite new song of the moment?
"It's a Fine Line " new tracks. the best thing to come out lately for me.

7. Favourite old song of the moment?
The Ordells: Slipping on a cup of coffee. Haunting.

8. What would be your last ever meal? (you’re not on death row)
Rabbit with a mushroom sauce, (even though this answer is not suitable for people in the UK) I never thought these fluffy little animals were that cute.

9. Best ever high?
probably something with high heels.

10. What is your motto?
"God bless Portugal".

11. Finish this sentence: Because I only live once I’m planning on…..

Tiga interview

What’s going on with you right now? How is Ciao being received?
i am taking stock of my life, preparing musically and physically for my upcoming invasion of australia: which means going thru old records and learning to swim. When it comes to music, i really think a straight numerical rating system is the best way to discuss, so i'd say Ciao! is an overall 8 on 10.

For those who have never seen ‘the interview’… describe it in one sentence.
just another day at the office; me hearing people talk and then talking more than them, for longer, until i get tired or hungry.

Was it entirely scripted or is it truly possible that you are genius enough to have been improvising?
it is MORE than possible that i am genius enough to have been improvising. However, it was scripted. but i tore up the script right before shooting- it needed to be LIVE, in fairness i DID know the questions in advance.

Do people generally consider you a wanker now?
I very rarely have actual contact with other people, so i'm not sure. I actually have no idea, but i find it hard to believe anybody could think of me as an asshole, especially after my recent charity work, which i did so that people would not think of me as an asshole. i assume my work for The Democratic Republic Of Congo will cover both the anti-asshole AND the anti-wanker angles.

Are you looking forward to the Australian Parklife tour? What’s planned for you after that?
Yes i am. Only in Australia do i fully realize how boring i am. I am the opposite of "surf". i do, however love Goannas. The guys i met over the years "down under" have seriously impressed me in the "cool" department. Dan, Gus, Jax, Daimon, Angus, Jamie, Beni..... everyone has in there own way amazed me and inspired me. "Honest".

Tell us what you remember about your experience at Sneaky Sundays?
I might be wrong, but i think that is when i first heard Daimon rap. i think he might also have been wearing a mesh-vest. I was totally blown away. it was so liberating. For a quiet guy from a cold climate, the whole "drunk-vest-white-rap" move is sublimely impressive. I felt like an accountant by comparison, albeit a great looking and very sophisticated accountant.

And lastly why is 'You Only Live Once' going to be a worldwide phenomenon...?
one word. three letters. D. A. N. i've met a few stars in my life: Diana Ross, John Laroquette, David Guetta.... and trust me, DAN is a star.

The You Only Live Once Perfect 11

1. What’s your current state of mind?
Best explained by a quote: "creativity requires the courage to abandon your certainties" .

2. Who is your perfect woman (or man)?
It's infuriating to admit, but David Bowie IS more or less perfect. If Winston Churchill LOOKED like Ralph Fiennes then that would be my answer. I guess, however unpopular this will sound, Bob Marley also had a lot going for him.

3. How would someone else describe your ‘look’?
Trying to get into the Guiness book of worlds records for "Consequetive Days wearing same pair of shorts combined with bespoke dress shirts " My Ciao! campaign saw the apex of the arms-dealer-colonial look..... i still have dreams of going albino-henchman, but there is only so much time in the day.

4. Ultimate party moment to date?
Gigolo party at Moog Club in Barcelona in 2004 for SONAR in june ( i think).... when i played Pleasure From the Bass for the first time. It was my own personal "Grammy". Unbelievably good party, and Aphex Twin was there.

5. The most amazing place you have been?
It's a tie between the Galapagos Islands and Panaroma Bar in Berlin.

6. Favourite new song of the moment?
Proxy "8000".

7. Favourite old song of the moment?
I'm listening to Rod Stewart "I don't Want To talk About It" as i type....

8. What would be your last ever meal?
I hate that question, I find it unbearably stressfull and depressing. do I KNOW i'm going to die? or do you tell me AFTER i choose a meal. how does it work? i would need more info to really answer it. Maybe those mexican eggs: Huevos Rancheros. Next.

9. Best ever high?
Boston, some rave called "Wonderland" 1994. Acid blotters stuck to my face. Escape from the valley of the walking teeth. every LSD cliche rolled up in one, but man was it good. More recently the birth of my son.

10. What is your motto?
Never go with a hippie to a second location. that and "No Woman No Cry".

11. Finish this sentence: Because I only live once I'm planning on....
Living to 110.
