The Sneakiest of Sundays

This is the party that took place on Anzac Day long weekend, guaranteed to always be the largest, funnest, and sneakiest Sunday of the whole year. As you can see, there's no lack of passion in this ten year long love affair between a few thousand people and one special weeknight.

Ajax, goodbye

Our friend Ajax (aka. Wally Lopez) has moved to Melbourne, again. So what better way to send him off than with another Sunday night soiree with the people that love him most.

Slighty Flattering, Slighty Offensive

If there's a word somewhere between the two, that's how Dan would describe his feelings about this wallpaper inside Kit and Kaboodle.

Playgrounder: according to Dangerous Dan Man

2010 will be remembered as the year that YOLO brought the "no hit" party policy into play. This was proved inside the YOLO tent at Playground Weekender; three days solid of deep club music with not a hit in sight, or well at least that's what some folks reckon, in actual fact it was back to back hits (stormers we like to call them), they just aren't as obvious as some of the others.
Good times (not the Norman Jay kind), good people, good fights, good nights.
YOLO proved that cabin 30 was 'THE' place to be, and that there's nothing better than good mates; the kind that love good beats and even the kind that just love a good beat-up.

A tribe is born at Playground Weekender

Click here for more photos of Playground Weekender

You could spot the people at the festival last weekend who were spending most of their time inside the You Only Live Once tent. If they hadn't stepped foot inside the tent, then they were most likely to have been attacked with a bundle of stickers by a group of people running past who HAD been spending most of their time in the You Only Live Once tent. These people, as easy to sight as the Teepee tribe with all of those stupid feathers on their head, were only one sticker away from morphing into a sticker themselves.

The You Only Live Once tent kicked off on the Friday, providing an all-weekend party zone that delivered tracks on the more blackish end of the dance music colour spectrum; meaning there was always a place to take things up a few notches if you felt like escaping from the relaxation being offered by the rest of the acts.

Responsible for this manic extravaganza, which by Saturday night had everyone thinking they had been dumped right into the middle of an Ibiza rave without even losing the hats and swords from their fancy dress outfits, was a collection of the finest You Only Live Once DJ's, with just a little help from the internationals. Black Angus, Dangerous Dan, and Jimmy 2 Sox performed an impressive display of DJ-ing stamina over the 72 hour period, with Pete Herbert (UK) and Alex Wolfenden (Cafe Mambo) stepping in to cover them during moments of fatigue.

So it has begun. The YOLO tribe and their DJ leaders will be sweeping across many more festivals in the near future, emerging from the tent that will assuredly be playing the dirtiest beats from the darkest corner. If you can't find the tent, just follow the people with those little black and white bad boys stuck to each and every one of their body parts.

We Love Sundays

...especially when we are graced with special guests such as Aeroplane, who played with us for the fourth time this summer.
After ten years, this night just seems to be getting bigger and better.
Long live Sneaky Sundays.

Too Many DJs

Follow me this way, if you please...

This is a tale of a DJ dance party for DJ's (and some of their fans).

Twas a stinking hot night in Byron Bay, and the Great Northern Hotel held masses of perspiring kids who came to the YOLO party for one thing only. To dance.

There were a few people in the room who were dancing more than those sweaty kids though, and these were the sweaty DJs, having a dance party of their own up on the stage.

The dancing DJs included:
Aeroplane
Riton
Black Angus
Beni
Dangerous Dan
Gus Da Hoodrat
Nicky Nighttime
Fake Blood
2ManyDJs

And also a dancing singer:
Sam Sparro

There was also a conversation between Black Angus and Fake Blood, DJ extraordinare from the UK (real name: Theo), that went like this.
Angus- "Dude, your Hot Chip remix of Touch Too Much was the greatest remix of last year. Bravo!"
Theo- "What are you talking about? Really? I've never even played it".
Angus- "Wow. Follow me."

Touch Too Much is presently played to the crowd, whose reaction (not abnormal for this particular track) triggers an overly respondent Theo into dancing wildly behind Angus- now truly converted to his own tune.

Hedonism at its best

More photos of New Years Day 2010

Somebody said to me on New Years Day... "What a shame that our favourite day of the year happens to be on the first day of the year".

Yes, it might seem most unfortunate that our favourite party on earth happens to occur on January 1st. Ordinarily, the Icebergs party on New Years Day provokes the feeling that it is going to be all downhill from here. But thank God 2010 is YOLO year, which means there will be many more days like this ahead. They might not take place behind glass walls overlooking Bondi Beach featuring Aeroplane, Beni, Black & Dangerous, and Miss Connie Mitchell- but it's safe to say they will be something of a similar description.

YOLO!

You Only Live Once presents A Party

This little chalkboard says it all. It's the chalkboard outside of the Great Northern Hotel in Byron Bay, because that is where the party is. It says "Tonight" because that's when it's on- TONIGHT Wednesday 6th Jan. And it says Sam Sparro, Riton, Black Angus, Dangerous Dan, Doom, Hoodrat, and Nicky Nighttime on it because these are the dudes who will be gracing the decks (and microphone).
The only thing that it does not say, because the man holding the chalk is either not a fan or has a bad memory, is that DJ Beni is also on the line-up.

Word! 2010 is YOLO Year!

Welcome to the 2nd hour and twentieth minute of 2010, the year that You Only Live Once will be bringing you the greatest things that only living once has to offer.
Happy 2010 YOLO, we are excited- not only because you provide us with a slogan that can justify all things ridiculous, irresponsible and extravagant, but because this year will be spawning the best parties, for the best people, in all of the best places. YO fucking LO.
Oh, and we're also excited because today is New Years Day, our favourite day of the year. You'll soon see why.
